FEATURED STORY

"BABY DRAMA"

 (A true story)

“Ray, Ray, come quickly, Stacy wants to see you”, Stacy’s brother said to me.  So I told my friend who I was talking to that I would come back because I could see ‘lil man’ was very anxious about something.  It was about 6 o’clock in the evening.  When we reached he told me she was in her room, so I went in the room.  Stacy was crying, holding her stomach and saying that she needs to get to the hospital.  So I rushed two houses down to my friend, Yellow’s, house because I don’t own a car.

Now in the neighborhood only Stacy’s friend, Val, her brother and me know about her pregnancy, and maybe the father of the child.  I had to let Yellow know or else he would not move his car if there is no profit in it.  After I had told him, we went to get Stacy and carried her to the hospital.

In the hospital everybody was rushing and asking questions, then one of the nurses asked Stacy her name, then she said her name was Catherine Adam.  When she said that I was like, “What?”  but I did not say anything.  She was then taken behind two swing doors.  While I was standing there a nurse asked if I was the father.  I told her I was a friend of the family.  I told the nurse that I had to go but to tell “Catherine” that I would be back to check on her in the morning, then I left.

The next morning I was on the driveway with one of my brothers when I saw Stacy coming up the road walking fast in night dress heading home.  Since she was avoiding my eyes I didn’t say anything to her.  Later on I went to check up on her, Ms. Moxey was in the kitchen.  She told me that Stacy was in her room all morning something must be wrong with her.  So I went and knocked on her door. When she opened it she went back to sit on her bed and I went in and closed the door.  “What’s happening?” I asked her.  She did not answer; she just kept her head down. So I asked her again, then she told me something that I was not expecting.  She told me that she left the baby in the hospital and that was why she gave the nurses a false name.  As she was telling me her story she was crying a lot.  Then every thing made sense to me as to what happened in the hospital.  I asked her how she felt about what she did she said that she was not sure how she felt but she knew she was scared and did not want to face the wrath of her mother.

I comforted her the best I could, which was not much, but from that day Stacy was a different person even up to now whenever I go by her and catch her daydreaming I know she is thinking about the child and what she did.  I don’t bring up the subject but I know she wonders what became of that child.
